User Guide > Tutorials View >

Overview

Tutorials View is the fifth of five different views within the ChordWizard workspace.  You can enter it by clicking on the Tutorials tab at the bottom of the screen or with either of the following:

Menu:  View-Tutorials

Keyboard:  Ctrl+5

Some links in this Help file will also take you directly to a Tutorials View topic.  For example, try this one.

In Tutorials View, the Tutorials menu appears in the middle of the menu bar, and contains a set of commands specifically for use with this view.

Summary

Tutorials View presents you with a series of music theory tutorials which explain all of the musical concepts that appear in ChordWizard.

They are concise, yet cover the essential concepts of music theory from the absolute fundamentals right through to the use of advanced chords and scales.

Beginners will find it helpful to start at the beginning and work through the topics in order.  More advanced musicians may wish to jump around between topics to fill in gaps in their knowledge and enhance their understanding of how music theory applies to stringed instruments.

Tutorials and Topics

There are six tutorials, each divided into several topics.  The Topics List allows you to see all of the topic and how they are arranged within their respective tutorials.

The Topic List has a tree-like structure, where each tutorial can be expanded to reveal the topics it contains, or collapsed to hide them.

The list always has one selected topic, and the content of this topic is shown in the Topic Page.  You can select a different topic with the mouse, or move to an adjacent topic with any of:

Tutorials Bar:

Keyboard:  Up

Menu:  Tutorials-Prior Topic

Tutorials Bar:

Keyboard:  Down

Menu:  Tutorials-Next Topic

As the selected topic changes, tutorials may be automatically expanded if necessary to reveal the newly selected topic.  There are also several commands for manually expanding or collapsing tutorials.

Reading and Hearing

As well as text and graphics, there are many locations within the tutorials where you can press a button to hear a sound that illustrates the point being explained.

This gives you a powerful multimedia experience that reinforces the concepts you are learning.

You can then take your new knowledge and explore the other areas of ChordWizard to see how it is applied on your stringed instrument.

Printing Tutorials

You cannot print the tutorial topics from within ChordWizard, but an HTML version of the Music Theory Tutorials is available online.
