Notes To Chords

The Notes To Chords tool is a popup window which is opened by:

Tool Bar:

Menu:  Tools-Notes To Chords

It analyzes the set of notes you enter, and displays the chords which contain these notes.

This is useful for identifying chord(s) made by another instrument (such as the piano).

It is also helpful for exploring relationships between chords and the notes which they are made from.

The Notes list and Chords list are colored yellow and blue respectively as with other areas in the ChordWizard workspace.  You can change these colors with the Display Options.

Controls

Notes

You may select any or all of the notes in this list.  There are specific keystrokes for navigating the Notes list.

The count of selected notes is shown at the top, and the names of the selected notes are shown underneath the list.

Clear Notes

Unselects all notes in the Notes list.

Play Notes

Plays the selected notes in the Notes list.

Chords

Each time you change the selection in the Notes list, the Chords list is updated to show which chords contain the new set of notes.

Any chords in the list which are inexact matches for the set of notes will also indicate which notes are missing.

More exact matching chords are shown towards the top of the list.

The count of chords in the Chords list is shown above it.

Set Filter to Chord

Sends the selected chord to the filter.  This helps you find suitable chordshapes for playing it when you return to the workspace, either from the Library List or with Design View.

Relations of Chord

Shows you the scales related to the selected chord in the Chords list.  It opens the Relations window on top with this chord automatically selected.

Play Chord

Plays the chord currently selected in the Chords list.

Enforce Required Degrees

Specifies whether the required degrees in chord types must be present for the chords which appear in the Chords list.

This is how ChordWizard's normal matching process behaves, and it is recommended that the option should remain ticked.

Removing the tick will loosen up the matching process, and reveal more chords of less certain quality.

Close

Closes the Notes To Chords window, and returns to the workspace.

Help

Opens ChordWizard Help at this topic.
