Overview |
Library View is the first of five different views within the ChordWizard workspace. You can enter it by clicking on the Library tab at the bottom of the screen or with either of the following:
Menu: View-Library
Keyboard: Ctrl+1
You will also be placed in Library View whenever you open or switch to different library, or create a new library.
In Library View, the Chordshape menu appears in the middle of the menu bar, and contains a set of commands specifically for use with this view.
Summary
Library View allows you to explore and edit the chordshapes stored in the current library. If you want to change the instrument or tuning you are working with, the easiest way is with the Switch Library window.
All the chordshapes in the library appear in the Library List, usually grouped by their matching chords. Many of the Library Options will affect the way that the library works.
Filtering Libraries
If you wish, you can browse the entire list of chordshapes in the library, but it is generally more useful to set a filter to restrict the list to just those chordshapes you are interested in.
The typical filter you will use with libraries is a chord filter. For example, you may wish to find all of the chordshapes which you can use for playing an Am7 chord. However, there are also many other filter criteria available for use with libraries.
Because the chord filter is the most common criteria, ChordWizard includes a Chord Matrix as one of the screen areas within Library View. If you want to change other filter criteria, you will need to use the Set Filter window, or the Filter Bar.
Browsing Chordshapes
You can explore any of the chordshapes in the Library List in more detail by selecting it. It will then be displayed on the Fretboard together with labels at each end to indicate which note and degree is played by each string in the chordshape.
There are several commands you can use to change the selected chordshape. See Library List for more details.
When you select a chordshape, ChordWizard will automatically play its sound, depending on the settings in Sound Options. If you want to hear the sound of a chordshape at any time, you can play it with any of:
Library Bar: ![]()
Keyboard: F5
Menu: Chordshape-Play
You can also play the selected chordshape with a manual strum by hovering the mouse pointer over the fretboard and pressing the right mouse button. The pointer will change to a plectrum, which you can use to strum the chordshape.
You can also view the notes of a chordshape as they would appear on staff lines in standard music notation. You can open the View Staff window for the selected chordshape with either of:
Keyboard: Ctrl+F5
Menu: Chordshape-View Staff
Adding New Chordshapes
ChordWizard is supplied with standard libraries of chordshapes for common instruments and tunings. You can add extra chordshapes to a library at any time, or you can create a new library from scratch, and add your own chordshapes to it.
The first step for adding new chordshapes is to use one of the following:
Library Bar: ![]()
Keyboard: Insert
Menu: Chordshape-New
This will take you to Design View, so that you can enter your new chordshape design.
Editing Chordshapes
You can also change the selected chordshape in the Library List with any of:
Library Bar: ![]()
Menu: Chordshape-Edit
This will take you to Design View, so that you make changes to the chordshape. From there, once your changes are complete, you will need to press the Add to Library button to complete the editing process.
Deleting Chordshapes
The selected chordshape in the Library List may be deleted from the library with any of:
Library Bar: ![]()
Keyboard: Ctrl+Del
Menu: Chordshape-Delete
Depending on your General Options, you will be prompted with a confirmation message before the chordshape is deleted. If it is a movable chordshape, you may also have the option of deleting the whole movable series at the same time.
Purging Chordshapes
Large scale changes can be made to libraries by purging unwanted chordshapes in one operation. You can specify which chordshapes to purge from the library using the Purge Chordshapes window, opened by:
Menu: Chordshape-Purge
Undoing Operations
Any New, Edit, Delete, Purge or Import operations you perform can be reversed immediately afterwards with either of:
Keyboard: Ctrl+Z
Menu: Chordshape-Undo
ChordWizard remembers only the last single operation for undoing.
Chord Book Reports
You can print a library of chordshapes as a press-ready chord book. You can also print a subset of a library, either by using a filter, or by selecting only particular chord groups to include.
There are many options you can choose from, including banner, color, font and layout settings, and even a table of contents. These are available from the Report Options window.
To see how your chord book will look before you print it, you can open Print Preview, with any of:
Tool Bar: ![]()
Menu: File-Print Preview
This opens the Report Type window, allowing you to choose a Chord Book report (from Library View this type will be selected by default).
