User Guide > Workspace Options >

General

The General page appears in the Workspace Options property sheet.

It allows you to select a variety of options which affect the display and behavior of the ChordWizard workspace.

Controls

Confirmation

There are a number of actions within ChordWizard where confirmation is requested with a message box before proceeding, to help you become familiar with these actions.

You may wish to disable them as you get more comfortable with ChordWizard.  Each confirmation message gives you the option not to Ask each time in future, in which case the confirmation will be disabled from that time onwards.

The Confirmation area shows you which confirmations are currently active, and allows you disable or re-enable specific confirmation messages.  These are the following:

Delete chordshapes - Requires confirmation when you delete a chordshape from the Library List or the Design Panel.

Edit fretboard chordshape - Requires confirmation for editing a chordshape when you change it by clicking on the fretboard in Library View.

Set filter on new chordshape - Offers to open the Set Filter window when you switch to Design View with no filter currently set.

Discard chordshape designs - Warns you when you are leaving Design View if the current chordshape design has been changed but not added to the library.

Switch fretboard relations - Requires confirmation for switching the mode of Relations View, when you click on an area which is not active in the current mode.

Check for version updates - Periodically checks with the ChordWizard website to see if an updated version of ChordWizard is available, and notifies you at the end of your session is there is.

Default Note Names

There are five notes which do not have a name of their own, and can be known by either of two names, either by adding a sharp (#) to the note below, or a flat (b) to the note above it.

The Default Note Names area specifies the names to be used for these throughout the ChordWizard workspace for root notes or notes which are not part of a chord or scale.

They are also used for the names of notes within chords and scales if the Note Naming setting in the Indexing Options is set to Use Default Names.

Note Order

Specifies the order in which notes appear in all areas of the ChordWizard workspace, including matrix column headings, library grouping, and note lists.

Normally, notes are ordered from C to B, but you can override this with your own preference.  For example, you may prefer notes to go from A to G#, which is more similar to alphabetical order.

Align List Chordshapes

Specifies how chordshapes and matching chords are arranged in the Library List, the Search List window and the Movable Series window.

If you select Right, the chordshapes appear to the right of the matching chords.

If you select Left, the chordshapes appear to the left of the matching chords.

Matrix Row Headings

Specifies whether to place row headings on the Left or Right side of matrix controls throughout the ChordWizard workspace.  The row headings contain the chord or scale types.

Placing the headings to the left is closer to the expected layout for the presentation of tables.

However, placing headings to the right can be more convenient for matrix controls, since it encourages you to select the root note from the column headings first.

Show Matrix Selection Bars

This option specifies whether to show shaded selection bars in matrix controls to highlight the current selection.  This is generally recommended for clarity and greater visual appeal.

Selection bars are not shown in multiple selection matrix controls, such as in the Selection page of Report Options.

Diminish Inexact Match Text

This option specifies whether to reduce the text size for matching chords with missing notes in the Matching Chord List, and the Library List.

This generally recommended to make it clear that they are less important than exact matching chords.

Folders

This button opens the Folders window, which allows you to specify the file system folders to be used for storing Libraries and Report Templates.

Reset

Resets all settings in the General page to the system defaults.
