Matching Chord List

The Matching Chord List shows all the matching chords for the current chordshape design in Design View.

These matching chords are updated automatically each time the chordshape design changes.

The chordshape design is shown in the Design Panel and on the Fretboard within Design View.

Sometimes there may be more than one matching chord, depending on your Indexing options.  In this case, as illustrated, they are ranked in order of preference, with the best matches at the top of the list.

Some inexact matching chords may also be shown, which have missing notes.  These are acceptable to use if there are no exact matches available.

Inexact matches are shown with smaller text and a different color.  The Matching Chord List also indicates which note(s) is missing and which degree(s) of the matching chord they represent.

The selected matching chord is indicated with a yellow box around it.  Depending on which matching chord you select (if there is more than one) the degree labels on the Fretboard will be updated to indicate how the notes in the chordshape design contribute to the matching chord.

There are some particular keystrokes and menu commands which can be used with the Matching Chord List, as follows:

Keyboard:  F6

Menu:  Chordshape-Matching Chord-Play

Plays the sound of the selected matching chord in standard inversion.  You can compare this to the sound of the chordshape.

Keyboard:  Ctrl+F6

Menu:  Chordshape-Matching Chord-View Staff

Opens the View Staff window to show the notes of the matching chord on staff lines.

Keyboard:  Ctrl+Up

Menu:  Chordshape-Matching Chord-Select Prior

Selects the prior matching chord in the Matching Chord List.

Keyboard:  Ctrl+Down

Menu:  Chordshape-Matching Chord-Select Next

Selects the next matching chord in the Matching Chord List.

If you are not satisfied with the matching chords that are shown in this list, you can open the Power Match window to analyse the chordshape more closely.
